Unique Ideas for a Mums' Night Out

By: Melissa Fine, 01 October 2019

If you're planning a night out with the girls but want to make it a bit different to your usual dinner, here's a handful of events and hot spots worth checking out over the warm summer months. There's something for every mum here. And just in case you needed an excuse to leave the kids at home with your partner or sitter, call it Galentines Day - a day for celebrating strong female friendships!

Cork and Canvas

This is perfect for an end of year Mothers' Group get-together - or any get together, we say! At Cork & Canvas (in Darlinghurst and new studio in Sydney's north Shore) you can get your Picasso on with glass of wine and even a BYO cheese board in hand. This is Australia's first paint and sip studio and it promises a barrel of laughs with the gals. It’s the only venue we know where you can BYO wine and food and learn a thing or two from a professional artist. Your kids won't be the only ones coming home with artwork for the house!

If you're over in the north west of Sydney, the Marsden Brewhouse is doing a similar event, called Pinot and Picasso (we love this name!) in November. All the details here.

Rosé Rising at Barangaroo

Because nothing says sophisticated mum more than sipping rosé in the balmy weather! This October, drink pink in style down at Barangaroo House where rose is being celebrated in all its glory. Over three levels, grab yourself a rosé passport and mark each experience with a stamp. Passports with six stamps are in the running to win rosé-themed prizes. Go to town on rosé slushies, rosé-infused oysters, rosé sangria, pink desserts, rosé cocktails and even help yourself at the rosé vending machine. Try A New Rooftop Bar

Spring is the perfect season for enjoying cocktails on a Sydney rooftop. We recommend the hot new Hyde Park House which has a stunning rooftop bar (see pic above) and a modern Japanese menu. Also brand new is the Manly Greenhouse with spectacular views of Manly beach and, as the name suggests, plenty of plants, courtesy of local plant specialists, The Plant Room, and Krelle. And then of course you've got the classic Coogee Pavillion for sunset champas with a stellar view. Check out our guide to Sydney's Best Rooftop Bars

Chicks at the Flicks

This isn't your your average night at the movies. Arrive at 6pm so you can catch up with your girlfriends over champagne before the movie's 7pm start. Each ticket comes with a complementary goodie bag with a mix of awesome products from the event's sponsors! Tickets start at $28, or for a larger than life-size experience - get the VMAX tickets for $32. If you're keen to lay back and have champas and desserts delivered to your seat, why not splurge on Gold Class tix? Anything is possible when you're taking some time out for you! October's chick flick is the oh-so-appropriate, Hustlers (9 Oct, 2019). Find out more here.

Mini Golf, Cocktails and Karaoke

Golf meets cocktail bar meets karaoke bar at the quirky Holey Moley in Newtown, Castle Hill and under the Coca Cola sign in King's Cross. Rehydrate and refuel at the Caddyshack, or have drinks delivered to your karaoke room...our kind of mini golf! With prices starting at $16.50 per person for nine holes, this is a mums night out that won't break the budget. Read our recent review on Holey Moley here

Rosé on the Lawn

Tis the season for the pink drink and Chiswick Woollahra have changed their Gin on the Lawn experience to reflect it. Chiswick Woollahra and Chandon are welcoming the warmer spring evenings with the launch of Rosé on the Lawn. Running from 5:30pm through to 7:30pm every Thursday evening throughout the month of October, the sprawling and luscious Chiswick lawn will come alive with live acoustic tunes, garden games and roaming canapés, all completely free of charge. Find out more here.

Book A Sneaky Night Away

Okay it's not a mum's night out, but how good does a weekend away with the girls sound? We recommend the newly opened Bannisters in Port Stephens for the ultimate gal's trip. With a stunning wet-edge Infinity Pool, views of the bay and a restaurant by Rick Stein, you won't want to come home!
