An Epic $300M Luxury Resort Inspired By Nature Planned For Port Douglas

By: Tully Rosenberg, 16 December 2020

Imagine an idyllic, family resort straight out of a fairytale, set in one of the world's most picturesque natural landscapes where the forest meets the sea, perched on the edge of two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. Imagine butterfly nets above the children’s swimming pool and an opulent lobby inspired by birds’ nests and lush tropical gardens.

That heavenly fantasy is about to become a reality! Bringing a whole new world of glitz and glamour to one of the Sunshine State's most celebrated resort towns, the new Fairmont Port Douglas will commence construction early next year and offer 253 luxury rooms, a range of restaurants and bars, an indulgent day spa, a treetop walk, and panoramic conference and wedding facilities, surrounded by resort-style pools.

The environmental resort is designed to bring guests closer to nature and is already bringing home accolades for its innovative design. It's the first hotel in Port Douglas to earn Ecotourism Australia’s Eco Destination Certificate and has won this year's Communities & Culture Award at the Sustainable Destinations Awards.

“Accor continues to expand its luxury offerings in Australia and, as our first Fairmont, this is going to be a truly special resort, whose architecture mimics the rich biosphere of the Daintree Rainforest and, which is centred on well-being, nature and cultural immersion," Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer Simon McGrath said.

Chiodo, the developer behind the magnificent property, claim it is a 'luxury hotel like no other that infuses the senses, the elements, culture and nature. A celebration of the planet and the human spirit. This luxury hotel will be the first of its kind in that it will be locally focused and globally artistic cultivating a celebration of the planet, sustainability and humanity.'

The striking Fairmont Port Douglas resort will be the first new establishment in two decades for the North Queensland city, and jet-setters will have to hold out even longer before they can check-in for the lavish experience: it is not expected to open until 2023. It does however look like it will be worth the wait!
