An Iconic British Chocolate Biscuit Is Finally Here

By: Tully Rosenberg, 21 July 2020

If you're an English ex-pat living down under or just a cookie connoisseur, you're in for a delightfully delicious treat. After years of anticipation, the beloved British Penguin biscuit will be available on supermarket shelves across Australia from tomorrow, in the biggest migration of Penguins ever!

Let the chocolate biscuit war begin.

In a rivalry that has crossed continents, Penguin, from renowned British biscuit producer McVitie's, has long been dubbed as the original Tim-Tam, created three decades before our cherished Arnott's favourite. They were even up for discussion in the recent trade talks between PM Scott Morrison and PM Borris Johnson, with the UK leader professing “I want to live in a world where we send you Penguins."

And here we are.

Penguin

Penguins are said to be longer and crunchier than their Aussie counterpart and are individually wrapped for freshness and on-the-go convenience. (Brownie points to us Aussies for environmental friendliness!)

Mark Schomberg, the Development Chef at McVitie's claims “The key difference is the crunch factor - Penguins have a great bite to them. They audibly crack when they hit your teeth, whilst still having that delicious chocolate coating, double biscuit layering and chocolate cream filling.”

“For ex-pats, this is your chance to get your beloved Penguins back. For Australians, a chance to try our British work of perfection,” added Shomberg.

Set your reminder! Penguin will be available exclusively at Coles from 22nd July 2020 and a six-pack will set you back $2.80.
