ANZAC Biscuits: Five of our Favourite Recipes

By: Tully Rosenberg, 12 April 2023

It's one easy recipe every Aussie should know: how to make ANZAC biscuits.

One of the simplest things to bake, and made with a few basic pantry ingredients, these delicious sweet treats have stood the test of time. Originating in World War I as a care-package staple sent to soldiers abroad, that biscuits became a wartime favourite because they did not spoil quickly, had a long shelf-life and could withstand transportation. Thus started a tradition of enjoying ANZAC biscuits and a cuppa to commemorate our diggers.

The evolution of this humble cookie now includes varying textures and modern twists, but we've found five of the best ANZAC biscuits to make sure you can bake up a storm with your family this ANZAC Day public holiday and beyond!

A classic, crunchy ANZAC goes down a treat with a cup of tea to dunk in!

Rumour has it the classic ANZAC biscuit of old was crispy and crunchy, which is, in fact, ideal for dunking into that afternoon cup of tea and celebrating the strong spirit of our veterans.

The trick to a crunchy ANZAC biscuit is to bake them a little longer than the chewy version and allow them to get crunchy as they cool. This recipe from New Idea Food will show you how to get the perfect result.
