City Park: A New $12-Million Green Space for Penrith

By: Haylie Gordon, 21 February 2024

A whopping $12-million is going to be spent on beautifying Penrith with a brand-new green space complete with themed gardens, water playground, public artworks and plenty of space for outdoor recreation - we can't wait!

Penrith's New City Park

City Park is the name that's been given to the brand-new $12-million green space that is about to be built in Penrith. In a bid to revitalise the Penrith City Centre, Penrith Council have secured a Development Application (DA) to build a new $12-million park in the Penrith CBD.

The project falls under the NSW Government’s $250-million Public Spaces Legacy Program, which aims to revitalise the health of many of Sydney's communities and provide jobs in the wake of Covid-19.

According to Penrith Mayor Karen McKeown OAM, "More people in the city centre is great for local businesses and, of course, a beautiful new green space, with more trees and natural shade and places for people to socialise is a great outcome for residents too."

"Penrith is an exciting place to be right now with unprecedented levels of investment going into creating and upgrading public open spaces across the City, which will deliver countless benefits to residents and further strengthen our position as Western Sydney’s most liveable city," she said.

Toted as being a new 'green civic heart for Penrith', Penrith's City Park is set to be built in a prime location opposite Westfield and a short distance from Penrith Train Station. Geared towards families and active locals, City Park will encourage the community to come out in force to discover their neighbourhood again, whether that's to meet friends, have a picnic as a family, discover new restaurants and shops, or to just enjoy being outside in a beautifully landscaped environment.

Locals can look forward to the key features of the new City Park, including themed gardens, picnic spots, natural shade, a water playground, public artworks and a large central lawn.
