Emma The Yellow Wiggle Helps Little Ones Make A Safe Return To Dance Classes

Get your tutus and ballets shoes ready! Emma Wiggle wants you to know that the dance studio is a safe space - and tiny dancers will love her new video supporting them through the process. 

Emma the Yellow Wiggle - real name: Emma Watkins - has teamed up with RAD - real name: Royal Academy of Dance - in a short film to reassure little ones (and their parents) that it’s safe to return to the dance studio following the COVID-19 lockdown. Wiggling her way back into the dance studio, Emma demonstrates that while some things may be different, it is still a safe and fun place to be!

Emma Wiggle Goes Back To Dance

The film follows Emma returning to her beloved dance class, incorporating the new safety measures that kids might encounter. She takes them on a step-by-step journey - from leaving parents at the studio front door, to hand sanitising, and dancing with social distancing. 

Former RAD student and dance-lover Emma was the perfect choice to prepare little ones for a safe return to dance classes. Inspired by The Wiggles recent handwashing song, the RAD sought out the popular entertainer to deliver the timely message.

“Dance has always been an important part of my life. I have enjoyed going to dance classes regularly since a young child. It’s so important that children and parents are reassured at the moment, especially when faced with the changes COVID-19 has made necessary." Emma said

"We would like to bring awareness to dance as a safe place for them to have fun, explore movement and find normality amidst the pressures of the outside world. The connection and creativity that dance class provides are so beneficial for this age group.”

Why Dance Is So Good For Kids

Global dance education organisation RAD believes dance can play a vital role in supporting the overall well-being of young children and that the safe return to activities is more important now than ever following periods of reduced social contact and physical activity. It can instil a love of music, movement and creativity from a young age, as well as support cognitive development and gross and fine motor skills. 

“Despite being an incredibly challenging time for independent business owners, such as dance studios, RAD Teachers across the globe have rallied their communities through online dance classes, giving students a space to connect with their friends and a hint at normality. However, nothing can compare to a class taught in person," said Gerard Charles, RAD Artistic Director.

"We are all too aware of the negative implications that staying at home with limited physical activity can have. Now that we are permitted to manage a safe return to dance classes, we wanted to make sure that young children understood what to expect when they return to the studio, as well as reassure them and their parents that dance classes remain a fun and positive experience."
