Lucky for us Aussies, Australia is sprinkled with plenty of homegrown chocolatiers and chocolate factories just waiting to delight your sweet tooth. Here are 8 of our favourite chocolate factories to check out on the east coast.

NEW SOUTH WALES

1. Junee Licorice & Chocolate Factory

Housed in a restored flour mill in Country NSW, the Junee Licorice & Chocolate Factory is worthy of a family road trip if you love organic Belgium-style chocolate and licorice. Sold under the brand Green Grove Organics, the historic Junee chocolate factory is open 7 days a week. Due to COVID-19, the Junee Licorice & Chocolate Factory are no longer running chocolate tours.

2. Blue Mountains Chocolate Company

From chocolates to jams, jellies, cakes, sauces, and even pickles, everything is homemade and utterly delicious at the Blue Mountains Chocolate Company. Located near world-famous Echo Point, the Blue Mountains Chocolate Company is open 7 days a week serving delicious hot chocolates and chocolaty treats in their cafe. You can take home a chocolate souvenir from their shop, which sells handmade Turkish delight, truffles, chocolate body paint, and over 20 different flavoured chocolate bars.

3. Hunter Valley Chocolate Company

Another iconic chocolate factory in NSW, the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company have been serving the finest Belgium couverture chocolate for over 20 years. The experienced chocolatiers at the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company use distilled pure fruit oil to infuse their chocolates, resulting in a very satisfying, full-bodied flavour. Dark chocolate, white chocolate, sugar-free chocolate, fudge, and even chilli chocolate is on the menu at the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company. 4. Charley’s Chocolate Factory

One of only a few places in the world where you can experience the full chocolate journey “From tree to bar”, Charley’s Chocolate Factory is the Golden-Ticket icon of Mission Beach. Aside from stopping in at their onsite chocolate shop, a must-do when visiting Charley’s Chocolate Factory is going on one of their comprehensive chocolate factory tours. Run every Thursday for chocolate-lovers of all ages, you’ll get the opportunity to hear about the 3,800-year history of the cocoa bean as well as witness the journey of this magical specimen from tree to chocolate at their cocoa plantation.

5. Noosa Chocolate Factory

If you love your chocolate with nuts, fruits and marshmallows inside, the Noosa Chocolate Factory is calling your name. Specialising in handcrafted chocolate-covered treats including rocky road, chocolate strawberries, and chocolate macadamias, a trip to the Noosa Chocolate Factory makes for a true afternoon delight. Aside from the heavenly taste, Noosa Chocolate Factory’s calling-card is their locally-sourced ingredients and 7-day shelf-life of all their products, ensuring you only get the freshest chocolate every time.

This delightful chocolate factory and teahouse has been serving up sweet treats for over 20 years. Their handmade delights are all made right on the premises and include old-time favourites such as chocolate hearts and truffles, as well as some quirky creations including Fried Egg, Pigs In Mud, and Funny Face Lollipops. 7. Phillip Island Chocolate Factory
