Sydney's Best Indoor Climbing Centres

By: ellalist team, 27 December 2019

Did you know that rock climbing is going to be an official sport at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo? Even more of a reason to get the kids into it!

For your next adventurous day out with the kids, why not try the adrenaline pumping, whole-body workout of an indoor climbing gym? Scattered throughout Sydney, we bring you the best places to climb, scale, and (hopefully not) fall.

Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym - St Peters and Villawood

This is the biggest climbing centre in Sydney. At the Villawood Centre, they host Tuesday Youth Climbing for 6-10-year-olds every Tuesday from 4.30-6pm, and 11yrs+ from 5.30-7pm. It makes an awesome kids birthday party too. The St Peters Centre boasts 3700 square metres of climbing walls and bouldering walls with an average wall height of 14m. Yikes!

Umbrella Nine Co - Brookvale

Umbrella Nine Co- Sydney's Newest Family Climbing Centre
Umbrella Nine is a climbing centre on the Northern Beaches, created specifically to encourage kids and their families to get active in the climbing scene. The twist? They specialise in bouldering - climbing without the ropes - with lower walls surrounded by soft padded mats for maximum safety. With a dedicated, purpose-built climbing and bouldering gym, kids aged 5 - 14 can challenge themselves to find their inner monkey. It is a great place to hang out in the holidays and an amazing party venue.

Climb Oz - Blacktown

It's not too late to start your Olympic training! Climb Oz in Blacktown has an outdoor climbing wall and offers bouldering, top-rope climbing, lead sport climbing, and self belaying. They suit all levels, so beginners, don’t be shy.

The Edge Rockclimbing Centre - Castle Hill

If heights are your thing, live on The Edge - Australia’s tallest climbing and abseiling centre! There are over 120 walls to suit 5 - 85 years olds, including challenge courses and towers to make things that little bit more exciting. Children under 12 can climb for just $11. Little chimpanzees will learn strength, confidence and flexibility, so take your kids to the edge these school holidays.

Climb Fit - St Leonards and Kirrawee

With a strong focus on kids climbing, Climb Fit is both a climbing centre and gym if parents want to work out too! They accept kids as young as 4 and boast the best activity to keep kids fit on a rainy day (rather than stuck in front of a screen!). There are also school holiday kids camps, in case this becomes their new favourite hobby. There's a new venue down south in Kirrawee with kids climbing, bouldering and birthday party packages.

Sky Climb - Alexandria and Miranda

Sky Climb is Sky Zone’s sky-high pursuit. Clip-on your safety harness, start climbing and scale the skies. Whether you’re on your own or with a crew, you don't need anyone to catch you on the way down – their auto-belay braking system takes care of you.

Turbo Climb - Bankstown

Turbo Climb is a new and innovative fitness experience, with a twist! Turbo Climb is re-imagining the traditional indoor climbing experience with new technology and exciting innovations. There are 26 of the most exciting climbing walls you will ever climb. Climb a magical beanstalk or a roaring volcano. Ideal for ages 4 - 84.
