The Palm Springs Inspired Hotel Bringing Retro Lux To Albury

If you’ve driven between Sydney and Melbourne, you probably know Albury, the unassuming, en-route pitstop on the highway between the two far more exciting cities.

Next time you pass through however, you might want to stay awhile.

The Astor Hotel Motel in the regional border town is currently undergoing a multimillion-dollar Palm Springs-inspired renovation and is set to rise up in all its retro glory by the end of the year.

The aesthetic of the reimagined hotel is reminiscent of the legendary southern Californian city of Palm Springs, known for its mid-century modern architecture and design.

The original 1960s building will retain some of its unique features, but a fresh pastel palette, palm trees and lush greenery, and nods to old Hollywood, will add to the substantial facelift. The major hotel redevelopment will inject some much-needed glamour into the 45 rooms, bar and restaurant, and several function spaces housed within its stylish, designer walls, plus an expansive sunlit beer garden will create a serene chill out space outside.

A first for the area, the stunning revamp will bring a much-needed tourism boost to the town, with the upgraded resort expected to be fully complete by September, with the first stage open as early as next month.
