One of my oldest and dearest school friends is allergic to nuts, dairy, seafood, fruit and eggs. I used to think that water and air were her only safe options! However, after doing some research I found that Sydney is blessed with many restaurants, cafes and bakeries that cater to those with food intolerance and allergies. 

So, to the 4 million Australians who have an allergy or intolerance, here are some of my top picks for dining out in Sydney. Bon Appetite!

5 Places To Dine in Sydney When You Have a Food Intolerance

1. Nutie Donuts

 

Nutie Donuts (located in Balmain and Surry Hills) is all about “have your cake and eat it too”. Whether you are in the mood for sharing or a pick-me-up, Nutie Donuts has a huge selection of savoury and sweet options and, yes, gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan treats – baked and not fried – that the whole family can enjoy.

D'oh! I almost forgot to mention that they also have takeaway options: Big Breakfast kit for 2, Nutie Lunch and dinner pack, and Assorted Donuts (6 pack) to tempt.

2. Warren and Holt

Open for breakfast, brunch and lunch 7 days a week, Warren and Holt offer a relaxing eating experience for the whole family to enjoy. Allergy-friendly, vegan-friendly and using unrefined good fats in cooking, sourcing meat from local butchers and priding themselves on using the finest organic beef, poultry and eggs only. This place oozes quality.

With tasty treats to tempt the kids, such as pikelets with maple and banana which are gluten- and dairy-free, or a Berry Vanilla Thickshake which will keep even the youngest critic silent. Housemade 48-hour bone broth or a Reuben Toastie will warm up any weary traveller that may pass by on a rainy day.

3. Youeni Foodstore

With generous portions, Youeni Foodstore will tempt even the fussiest. Youeni offers vegan, keto, high protein meals and pastries promoting healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle attitude to the masses. If you are a foodie and need your daily dose of food porn, check out Youeni on Instagram or Facebook for delicious items like their mouth-watering Eggs Benedict, which is made from garlic and oregano roasted portobello mushrooms, poached eggs, thyme & tarragon hollandaise, crispy greens, pickled Goji berries and toasted pepita, served on toasted sourdough. Yum!

4. Beach Buns Burgers

After a six-month process of sending their food to the testing lab, Beach Buns Burgers in South Sydney was given two thumbs up by the NFP organisation Coeliac Australia, making them the first Sydney cafe with gluten-free accreditation. They are reinventing the burger with milk buns, gluten-free buns, lettuce buns and mushroom buns and also cater for other allergies such as peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, soy and lupin. You can enjoy a cheeseburger, hot chips, chicken burger and shakes while knowing that there is no gluten in sight!

5. The Rocks Café

Whether you are looking to stop by for a Classic BLT or a Grilled Kangaroo Fillet, Rocks Cafe has something for everyone. With a European and Modern Australian twist menu and plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this quaint cafe located in the heart of The Rocks is the perfect place to refuel.
