Sydney Eco Hopper Ferry Service

We love the 24 hour jump on, jump off harbour hopping Eco Hopper. There is no excuse to stay at home – tickets are really reasonable and there are heaps of fantastic things to see and do around the 7 stops this ferry makes-most of them free. You can also combine your ferry ticket with discounted admission to some of the major attractions you’ll find along way – see website for details. Here are our picks on how to make the most of 24 hours exploring your city:

Manly: The ferry stops not far away from Little Manly Beach,  a lovely, sheltered beach with plenty of shade or check out Oceanworld Manly. There are plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants for a pit stop and great weekend markets.

Q Station: This old quarantine station is worth a day trip alone. There are spectacular views, parkland to explore, a great museum and tours of the historical site.

Watson’s Bay: Wander down to our favourite Eastern suburbs beach, Camp Cove. This idyllic spot is perfect for a paddle on a nice day and a beautiful spot for a stroll even in winter. Work up an appetite with a walk to the Gap, one of Sydney’s most scenic vistas (even more beautiful at sunset and an easy walk, even with toddlers) and then have takeaway fish and chips from Doyles on the beach. If you have time, check out the great playground in Robertson Park.

Taronga Zoo: Our top tip for a cheap trip to the zoo-hop on the free sky safari and get a birdseye view of the harbour and the animals down below. Alight at the newly developed Main Entrance Plaza where you can have a picnic, see the wetland birds and glimpse kangaroos and wallabies.

Milsons Point: North Sydney Olympic Pool has to be the pool with the best view in Sydney. Located under the Harbour Bridge, within spitting distance of Luna Park and the Opera House, it’s a great spot for a family swim and admission is very reasonable (Adult $6.70, Child $3.30). Try to make time to visit Luna Park-it’s easy to spend a whole day here and spend a small fortune but for a quick visit, head straight to Coney Island-a ticket for unlimited access to the old school amusement park attractions here is only $10.

Circular Quay: There’s a reason why Circular Quay is a tourists’ mecca. This area is packed with amazing places to visit-check out our posts on The Rocks for Kids , Opera House, The Police and Justice Museum, The Museum of Sydney for inspiration.

Darling Harbour: When we’re in the area, we always make a beeline for (arguably) the best playground in Sydney at Darling Quarter. But you can also take your pick of the world’s biggest Imax Theatre, Maritime Museum or get discounted admission to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo or the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium.
