Talaroo Hot Springs Opens in Queensland

By: Amy Nelmes Bissett, 06 July 2021

There’s a new contended for Australia’s most picture-perfect hot spring and it comes in the form of the brand new Talaroo Hot Springs in Queensland.

And while we say brand new, it has, in fact, been around for 65 million years. But what makes the Talaroo Hot Springs new is that it’s recently got a modern-day facelift thanks to the Ewamian Traditional Owners.

Located between Georgetown and Mount Surprise, about 4.5 hours drive west of Cairns in Far North Queensland, water discharges at a scorching 62°C but then flows into pools and natural terraces.

And the springs now not only offer a place to dip and relax but there’s also 25 campsites, a stunning boardwalk around the pools and purpose-built amenities, transforming Tolaroo from a day trip to a stunning tourism destination.

There’s even opportunity to book a private pool session, with up to four, or even a star-gazing session.

And every day, guided tours will take place looking at the rich history of the area and the hot springs, including a look at the extraordinary ecosystem with aquatic animals and plants found nowhere else on earth.

Online bookings opened on July 5, 2021, with seven days on a powered site costing a reasonable $280. A tour and soak alone is $35 for an hour.
