Sydney icon the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is playing host to some awesome, creative things to do during the spring school holidays, perfect for the whole family.

Enjoy a fun-filled day at the Museum with art-making activities and tours specially created for families to experience the magical works of Hiroshi Sugimoto.

Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine

Uncover photography's ability to document and invent with the Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Featuring over 100 artworks, this exhibition is Hiroshi Sugimoto’s largest to date, chronicling over five decades of his practice.

Exclusive to Sydney, the exhibition is on now until 27 October 2024 and is free for kids under 17 years and MCA Members.

MCA School holidays: Family Space: Light Lab

Family Day: Hiroshi Sugimoto

Experience Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine with a day of free activities on Saturday 5 October from 10 am – 4 pm. Spend time exploring the exhibition, drop into the Family Space: Light Lab and don't miss the Silent Disco and a performance by magician Adam Mada.

Family Tours

Join a family-friendly tour of Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine exploring exhibition themes including mindfulness. These tours are popular, so arrive early to avoid disappointment! 

Family tours are on Thursday 10 October at 10.30 am, 11.30 am and 12.30 pm.

Access Social: Families

Get creative with art-making activities and experience sensory-friendly artworks in a free, drop-in session created for autistic children and children with disability led by MCA artist educators.

Access Social: Families is on Saturday 28 September from 10.30 am – 3 pm. For a quieter experience, priority booking is available between 10.30 am –1 2 pm, during which time numbers are capped at 50 people. priority bookings are available.

New Sculpture Terrace Artwork

Don’t miss the new Loti Smorgon Sculpture Terrace Commission, Hours in wind by artist Kate Newby, inspired by the site of the MCA and Warrane/Sydney Cove.

This three-part artwork unfolds across the Museum, from the ground-floor entrance to a hidden space on Level 2, and the Level 4 Terrace. Experience the spectacular aerial installation made from old shipping ropes, bronze, cast and hand-blown glass.

With an array of inspired artful gifts for young people, don't forget to drop into the MCA Store to find a treasure trove of quality toys, books and more for budding creatives. Enjoy the new MCA Cafe at Tallawoladah located on the Ground Floor with scenic views of Sydney Harbour.
