Let off some steam with Crane Day at Cockatoo Island, Sydney Harbour

Image: Located alongside Fitzroy Dock and installed there during the 1890s, the No. 2 Travelling Steam Crane is a rare example of an early steam-powered crane.

On Saturday 9 July, visitors to the island’s Dock’s Precinct will be able to enjoy a FREE demonstration of the No. 2 Travelling Steam Crane. This metal behemoth has been restored to its former steam-powered glory by The Harbour Trust's skilled Volunteer Restoration Team.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to travel to the era when steam power ruled and see one of the island’s mighty Iron Giants in action.

Steam crane demonstrations are scheduled to run at three times during the day (10am, 12:30pm and 2pm), and will include an opportunity to hear directly from a volunteer heritage crane specialist.

PLUS: Cockatoo Island’s regular Saturday tours – the World War II Shipyard Tour (all-ages) and the Convict Precinct Tour (all-ages, accessible) – will also be running during Crane Day. Tour tickets are available from $16, and bookings are essential.

Where:  Cockatoo Island, Fitzroy Dock
