ParkScience - Superpowers in Nature

You might be surprised to know that nature has inspired many amazing scientific innovations. For example, did you know that airplanes are modelled after birds?

Kids will get to explore the concept of Biomimicry, commonly defined as innovation inspired by nature, or the practice of applying lessons learned from nature for scientific innovation. Kids will enjoy the hands-on activities, teamwork and use problem solving skills to create their own nature-inspired invention in this fun-filled 2-hour program.

Bring your thinking cap, imagination and sense of adventure for this STEM Program!

Special Notes: 

Centennial Parklands will supervise your children during the lunch hour if you book in for Nature & Art - Ecoart in Winter in the afternoon. Please BYO lunch if your child is staying the whole day.

This program will go ahead in all-weather except high winds, so please come prepared with wet weather gear. Children must wear enclosed shoes.

Nature & Art - Ecoart in Winter

Kids will enjoy an afternoon outside - being creative while using natural materials. 

This art workshop is perfect for those nature and animal loving kids, who also like to explore their creativity. Kids will play some nature-based art games working with a range of art mediums and natural materials to make a series of works to either leave in situ (on site) or take home.

Centennial Parklands will supervise your children during the lunch hour if you book in for ParkScience - Superpowers in Nature in the morning. If you are staying for the whole day, please BYO lunch.

Nature & Art - Ecoart in Winter workshop is perfect for children who love nature. 

Little Red Riding Hood

Interactive and roving performances of the old time classic tale will keep your kids engaged and interested for the entire 50 minute experience.

Meet all of your favourite characters - the hungry wolf, the sweet and innocent Red Riding Hood, and the huntsman as they tell this delightful tale set in a forest that is as enchanting as the story itself.

Be a part of this Aussie adaptation of the fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood by dressing up to be a part of the show. (no previous acting experience required).

This is a highly interactive 50 minute performance with songs and a familiar story line.

Presented by the Eaton Gorge Theatre Company on behalf of Centennial Parklands.

Come and enjoy the old-time classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood at Centennial Parklands this school holidays.

Bushrangers - Campfire Club

Led by Centennial Parklands' experienced team of Bush Rangers, kids will enjoy a day of wildlife, bushcraft, outdoor challenges, games and free play, all in the great outdoors of Centennial Parklands. Activities are designed to allow kids to play outside and to take part in problem solving and cooperative challenges.

In the winter months, you will get to know the art of firecraft – learn how to light a fire from a spark without matches and make some delicious damper and yummy campfire treats!

This program is a firm holiday favourite and places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

Please note: In case bush fire ratings are above low, fires are not allowed to be lit and the program will be changed to shelter building, outdoor challenges, and free play.

What to bring:

This program will go ahead in all-weather except high winds, so please come prepared with wet weather gear.

Join Bushrangers - Campfire Club for a day of wildlife, bushcraft, outdoor challenges and games in Centennial Parklands.

Aboriginal Dance

Come and get to know the culture and customs of Australia’s First Nations People though dance in the beautiful surroundings of Centennial Parklands. This country has been used for sharing knowledge about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures for generations.

During this 1-hour workshop, children and their parents or carers will explore various First Nation dance styles as well as some traditional movements. They will learn how the dances are dependent on local environments and customs and how they teach responsibility and respect to each other.

Make your experience a whole-day adventure and visit our amazing Ian Potter Children’s WILD PLAY Garden before or after your program. Your kids can roam wildly around and test their climbing skills in the tree house and their speed on the slide – water play, tunnels and bamboo mazes guarantee a great experience for them (and there is a coffee cart for you!)

Kids will learn how to survive the night through the art of campfire making, using only resources from the Park around them!

Then take advantage of all your hard work by cosying up by the fire, making damper.

Bush Chef - Cooking Over Fire

Bush Chef is Centennial Parklands' newest extension to Kids Vs Wild. 

Kids will learn how to make and use a campfire to cook delicious dishes! The skills you learn in this workshop can be used for future camping trips, picnics and 'bush birthday parties' to fill your tummies.

Kids will get to make and cook their own damper, attempt at making popcorn over the fire and another dish if time allows.

Taste of Bush School

Little one's can enjoy Centennial Parklands' Nature Play session and check it out by joining the Centennial Parklands' rangers for a morning of fun in Fearnley Grounds. 

Let your kids explore the little forest, test their balancing skills, listen to stories and just play in nature. Centennial Parklands' Bush School rangers have prepared a range of outdoor games and activities that leave no hands clean! Learn more about Bush School and the theory behind nature play. Parents will also have the opportunity to receive training and advice on how to nurture and mentor their own nature child.

Bush School is an outdoor program and will take place in all-weather except for high winds and electrical storms. Participants (adults and children) are expected to dress for the outdoors, including bringing wet weather gear, a hat, sturdy enclosed shoes and waterproof footwear when required.

Older children with you during the school holidays? No problems, bring them along for a fun morning of games and exploration too! Centennial Parklands have dedicated activities to keep them occupied during the Bush School session, so you can enjoy Bush School with your preschooler.

Special notes: Please note children must be accompanied by an adult. There will also be a dedicated snack break during each session, so please bring food for your child.

Spotlight Prowl for Families

There's no better time than dusk to spot animals in Centennial Parklands. The park is home to a variety of nocturnal creatures, from brushtail possums, microbats, and tawny frogmouths to one of Sydney’s largest colonies of grey-headed flying-foxes.

Join Centennial Parklands' experienced Rangers for a fascinating and surprising spotlight walk to see how the Park transforms when the sun goes down.

Astronomy in the Park

Leave behind all your Earthly worries and join your hosts Jessie and Reuben on a tour through the southern night sky.

Find out about the origins of our star signs, the furthest and the closest planets and how to find south once the sun has set! 

This event will help you to make sense of what’s going on in the night sky. You’ll learn how to navigate using the stars, be captivated by stories of the cosmos, and look through a telescope to see things that aren’t visible to the naked eye.

Come together with your family, friends, or that special someone for an unforgettable evening under the stars.
