Museum of Fire Penrith: A Journey Through History
Did you know that Penrith is home to Australia’s largest Fire Museum? If you have a child, like mine, who stops, slack-jawed and wide-eyed to watch every passing fire engine, The Museum of Fire is well worth a trip!
Museum of Fire Penrith: A Journey Through History
If you're a fan of history, firefighting, or simply looking for a unique experience, the Museum of Fire in Penrith is a must-visit destination. Located just an hour from Sydney's CBD, this fascinating museum offers a captivating glimpse into the world of firefighting and the brave fireys who dedicate their lives to protecting communities from the ravages of fire.
This is a non-profit, community museum staffed by volunteers, many of them firefighters themselves. It isn't flashy but it is chock full of fire engines, firefighting equipment, and big thrills for the kids. All profits raised by admission to this delightful museum go to educating families about the dangers of fire and preserving the heritage of the community's bravest.
Highlights of the Museum of Fire
The Museum of Fire has one of the world's largest and most unique fire collections. First and foremost are the fire engines but you'll also find an impressive array of firefighting equipment and memorabilia like uniforms, communications, firefighting tools, protective equipment, and special displays. The highlight for young visitors is the committed Junior Firefighters area, which contains fire safety activities, computer games, puzzles, and a fire engine simulator!
Hop Aboard a Real Fire Engine
We highly recommend visiting on a Tuesday or Friday when you can hop aboard a real-life fire engine! It's your opportunity to ride around the museum in a 1935 Ford firetruck, complete with blaring sirens.
There is something for everyone at this museum, especially for every little (and big) kid who's ever dreamt of being a firefighter.
Birthday Parties
Yes, you can even have your birthday party at the Museum!
Throw a firefighter-themed birthday party to remember with one of the Museum's birthday party packages that start at a reasonable $12 per person. Birthday party packages include admission to the museum, fire engine rides, birthday presents, a dedicated party space, and more.
