Museum of Sydney

Architecturally stunning and historically significant, The Museum of Sydney gives visitors a fascinating insight into our city’s rich history. The museum is housed on the site of the colony’s first Government House built in 1788, which was also the point of first contact between the Gadigal people of Sydney and the British exiles arriving on the First Fleet.

The Museum of Sydney explores worlds of colonial and contemporary Sydney through objects, pictures, stories and digital media technologies. Interesting and constantly changing temporary exhibitions complement the Museum’s permanent displays and excellent, low-cost activities for kids are on offer during school holidays for 2-12’s.

The MOS has a great shop and the Governor’s Table cafe next door caters for families and often has special school holidays specials for kids.

ellaslist opinion: The Museum of Sydney isn’t a huge space and for the under 10’s, there may not be the bells and whistles of some of Sydney’s other museums to keep them engaged for a lengthy visit. But for older children, there is much to be gained on a family outing to this fascinating and nationally important site.
