ellaslist hangs out in the Kid-Friendly Outdoor Play Area at Nature Boy Cafe

Murrumbeena has plenty of wonderful dining options for families (check out our review of nearby Little Henry here), and Nature Boy cafe on popular Neerim Road is a great option whatever the weather - but the play area is definitely worth a trip!

The Menu

With an all-day breakfast focus with some lunchy things added, there's plenty to choose from - lovely chia puddings, smoked ham hocks with green pea puree and eggs, granola, sourdough toast with spreads, smashed avocado, shakshuka chicken schnitzel and coleslaw; burgers, hoagies, and a gigantic mushroom and hommus dish will fill you up.

For kids, there is the choice of pancakes with Nutella and strawberries, eggs and toast, a ham and cheese toastie, and chips with sauce.

Plenty of drink options too - but be warned, the milkshakes are gigantic! There are kids sizes available, however. Lovely teas, juices and smoothies accompany the coffee and wine list.

My 4-year-old opted for the pancakes, I the Japanese-style soba noodle salad with green beans, herbs, nuts and avocado ($7) with some chips ($5.50) to share. We were well-fed!

The Play Area

A lovely area at the rear of the second enclosed dining area with cubby house, ride-ons, toys and other cool things to keep little ones occupied, all under shadecloth. There are outdoor tables with heaters available too should your weather not be outstanding!

The Service

The service is super-attentive and you never feel like you're looking for someone to help. 

In a Nutshell

What makes the cafe kid-friendly? The menu that kids will actually eat (and they can colour in!), plenty of space in the cafe and outdoors for prams, lots of highchairs, and lovely outdoor play area.
Atmosphere: relaxed.
The Food: Great options of all day breakfasts and several lunch items. Good portions.
Value-for-Money?  Portions are good sizes and filling for both adults and kids
Who is the cafe best suited for?  The outside area is great for those with young children from 12months to 6. The front cafe is more suited to those without children.
What we loved: The service, the play area, and the enclosed dining area with huge windows that still allows good supervision of the children.
