Sydney❜s Gaming and Culinary Gem Bids Farewell: ESC Restaurant Closure

By: The ellaslist Team, 09 March 2024

Update from Friday 8 March, 2024:

It's with a touch of sadness and nostalgia that we wave goodbye to one of Sydney's most unique dining experiences, the ESC restaurant. Nestled in the bustling heart of Chatswood, ESC has been the go-to destination for both gaming aficionados and Japanese cuisine lovers alike. Its innovative blend of cutting-edge gaming and exquisite dining set it apart in Sydney's vibrant food scene.

ESC's philosophy of "Eat, Play, Chill" encapsulated its essence perfectly – offering patrons private gaming rooms equipped with the latest PS5s and Nintendo Switches alongside a menu that boasted both creativity and flavor. With a selection of 25 games for the PS5 and 32 for the Nintendo, including fan favorites like Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart, ESC ensured that every visit was an adventure.

The culinary prowess of ESC was equally impressive, with a menu that featured a deluxe sashimi platter, wagyu skewers, and the unforgettable cheesy mashed potato volcano. These dishes, often described as unexpectedly fancy for a 'gaming restaurant', were a testament to the establishment's commitment to quality and innovation.

Sadly, ESC announced its permanent closure, with its last day of service set for March 29th. In a heartfelt message to its nearly 9000 followers on social media, ESC expressed gratitude for the journey shared with its patrons. Despite the rave reviews and a strong social media following, ESC's closure underscores the challenges facing the hospitality industry, particularly in these times of economic uncertainty.

The Food

A selection of mouth-watering Japanese at ESC. Restaurant, anyone?

The consensus on the food at ESC. is that it's way fancier than you'd expect from a 'gaming restaurant.'

We're talking sashimi platters, skewer combos, udon, and soups, plus plenty of sides, snacks, and starters, and you can wash it all down with beer, shochu, cocktails, or sake. Bottoms up!

Gamers can simply order as they go on their iPad, and food will be delivered to them without interrupting their gaming (cue, relief from gamers everywhere.)

Booths can be booked with a minimum spend of $80 for a minimum of two people, while private rooms are available for a $100-200 minimum spend with a two-hour time limit.
