By: The ellaslist Team, 22 February 2024

It's been six years in the making and finally, the first Livvi's Place playground in the Sutherland Shire is weeks away from opening!

The Sutherland Shire's new Livvi's Place Playground will take pride of place at the brand-new Bay Central Woolooware in collaboration with the Touched By Olivia foundation, and is set to become one of the most popular playgrounds in The Shire.

Here's everything we know so far about The Shire's most hotly-anticipated new playground!

After much toing and froing over the last six years, the first Livvi's Place playround in the Sutherland Shire is finally being built.

We first caught wind of the new inclusive playspace back in 2018 when the coastal-themed playground was set to be built on the edge of Woolooware Bay behind the western apartment blocks. The proposed $1-million Livvi’s Place accessible playground was subsequently rejected, largely because of high voltage power lines above the park. The state government’s Planning Assessment Commission stated that even though the playground site was outside the Ausgrid protection zone and met the necessary EMF (electromagnetic field) clearance, the electricity network operator was concerned about the playground being within its easement. And so it was back to the drawing board to find a new site for the playground.

The brand-new Bay Central Woolooware Shopping Centre is the new site for The Shire's first Livvi's Place, which is fondly being named "Shark Park" due to its coastal design and shark elements.

Desiged in conjunction with playground heroes, Livvi's Place and Cronulla local landscape architect David Vago (Habit8), the park will feature a large, wheelchair-accessible shark structure for kids of all ages and abilities to explore.

The new $1-million, inclusive children’s playground will be built in landscaped parkland at the rear of the shopping centre along the bike path.

According to Bay Central, "Our partnership with Touched by Olivia Foundation has brought the first inclusive playground to the Sutherland Shire. We recognised the importance for children to have a space to play, discover, and imagine, no matter their physical or cognitive abilities."
