The Top Primary Schools in Sydney for 2024

By: Joey Richards, 14 December 2023

Are you wondering where your school ranks in terms of Sydney's top primary schools for 2024? Or are you contemplating switching schools and need to check out the competition? We delve into the latest results to reveal the top primary schools in Sydney.

While Sydney's high schools are often ranked based on their HSC results, determining the 'best' primary schools is a little trickier because some schools have very low enrolment numbers, so the result is not a reliable reflection of the entire school’s performance.

The National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (aka NAPLAN) is often the most reliable indicator of the top primary schools in Sydney as the annual assessment is conducted across all primary schools in NSW for students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9.

While there is often a lot of confusion and controversy surrounding NAPLAN, the national assessment doesn't measure how 'smart' your child is. Rather, NAPLAN assesses students on literacy and numeracy to see if they are keeping up with the national standard and reaching important literacy and numeracy goals that are essential to their overall education.

To quote NAPLAN, "It’s a measure to see whether or not young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning, and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community."
