Taronga Zoo

Sydney’s Taronga Zoo is one of the most famous animal parks in the world and one of Sydney’s best activities for children. As soon as you step on to the free sky safari that transports you from the ferry and bus stops to the zoo, you will understand why. The elevated harbour view is absolutely spectacular and the juxtaposition between the animals and the city skyline is awesome.

A Family Adventure Awaits at Sydney's Taronga Zoo

A family outing to the zoo is always going to be a great day out with the kids but with a bit of planning, you can really make the most of your visit. Make sure you also take advantage the child-friendly areas, such as KidZoo at Backyard to Bush and the Streets Beach at Great Southern Oceans.

In addition to the great daily event for kids, Taronga’s Zoo Adventures Program is a brilliant school holiday activity for the 5-12’s and the famous Roar n Snore overnight stay at the Zoo is Sydney’s ultimate sleepover for over 5’s.

Ellaslist Opinion

Going to the Zoo is guaranteed to be one of the most fun things to do with kids in Sydney. We recommend hopping on a ferry and making a real day trip of your visit. The terrain is hilly and a visit can be exhausting for both kids and parents so make sure you plan regular rest stops and give yourself plenty of time to explore all the enclosures to avoid disappointment. There are plenty of options for food but can be pricey but with so many beautiful spots for a picnic, pack a lunch and enjoy the view. Mum and bubs are well catered for with all areas of the Zoo accessible with a pram (and stroller hire available) and a clean and roomy parents room for changing nappies and nursing. Admission prices are very high – worth it for an annual trip but if you plan to visit more than once, a yearly pass is definitely the way to go.

Admission: Adults $45.90, Children $27, Under 3’s Free. Get more with a Zoo Friends annual Membership, from $99 for individuals, or $130 for the Family Flex Membership! Unlimited fun for the kids. Ultimate flexibility for the adults!

Getting There: Easiest transport method is the ferry from Circular Quay. See website for bus route details. Parking is available at the Zoo.

Facilities: The Zoo’s Concert Lawns provide a great place to picnic while taking in the panoramic views of the Sydney Harbour. There are also a variety of food and beverage outlets if you would like to buy food on site. Stroller hire is available and all paths are pram friendly. Unisex parent’s room onsite.
