Rouse Hill Estate
Rouse Hill Estate, home to six generations of one family, continues to captivate visitors with its rich history. Each generation has left behind belongings, improvements, and memories, creating a tapestry of stories. Every object, tear, stain, and repair has a unique tale to tell.
Part of the Museums of History NSW, Rouse Hill Estate is well worth a visit for families.

The estate also features the beautifully restored 1888 Rouse Hill schoolhouse, a section of the historic Windsor Road turnpike established by Governor Macquarie in 1813, and the site of the 1804 'Vinegar Hill' convict rebellion. Come explore and discover the fascinating stories woven into every corner of Rouse Hill Estate.
Every Sunday, you can give the kids a taste of farm life with a visit to Rouse Hill Estate. School visits are also facilitated, with plenty of programs to engage young minds curious about history.
ellaslist Opinion
Rouse Hill Estate is a wonderful day out for city-slicker families and a great way to introduce kids to both a taste of rural life and of NSW history. There is so much to see the property and its contents give visitors an extraordinary insight into the lives of the family who occupied it for so many generations. The highlight for little lovers of fashion (and their mums!) is the immense collection of period clothing that has amazingly been preserved.
Make sure you and the family wear clothing and footwear suitable for the countryside as the terrain is uneven and can get muddy.
Opening Times
Rouse Hill Estate is open 10 am - 4 pm on Sundays.
Costs
Entry to Rouse Hill Estate is FREE.
Getting There
This is a trip that requires a car as Rouse Hill Estate isn’t really handy for public transport. If driving from the city take the M2, turn right onto Windsor Road and left into Guntawong Road and turn into the signposted driveway. Free parking is available at the Visitors Centre.
