Cool Things To Do With Kids In Western Australia

Famed for its ever-changing coastline, diverse range of wildlife, extraordinary bushland and vibrant cities, a trip to Western Australia offers something for the whole family on a fun and experience-filled trip through one of the country’s most underrated travel destinations.
An obvious choice for families that love spending time in the great outdoors and exploring regional history, Western Australia has as much to do for kids as it does for adults. Because of its vastness, it’s a good destination for a road trip; allowing you to experience more of what the state has to offer.

Beaches

When it comes to coastline, there are 12,000 kms of beautiful Western Australian coast to be explored, and its location on the Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean make it as picture-perfect and pristine as they come. For iconic beaches, head to Esperance and check out Lucky Bay, Broome for camel rides along Cable Beach, Cottesloe Beach in Perth, Leighton Beach near Fremantle, Mullaloo Beach which is perfect for children and Ningaloo Reef in Exmouth. The crystal-clear waters and white sandy stretches will have you smitten with the state in no time.
Wildlife

Got kids that love animals of every kind? Western Australia has got you well and truly covered. Perth Zoo is a Western Australian icon, with over 170 species in naturalistic habitats. Bunbury Wildlife Park is home to reptiles, marsupials and native and exotic birds, while Peel Zoo in Pinjarra boasts 100 species to get hands-on contact with.
The Aquarium of Western Australia in Hillarys showcases sharks, stingrays and turtles in Australia’s largest walk-through aquarium—and the DANGERzone exhibit features Western Australia’s most dangerous marine life! Malcolm Douglas Wilderness Wildlife Park in Roebuck near Broome offers daily tours and self-guided visits that provide fun animal encounters with all of Australia’s favourite animals; from dingoes, cassowaries, wallabies, kangaroos and of course, crocodiles!

For your little culture vultures, there’s no end of history and art on offer in WA. The Shipwrecks Galleries in Fremantle is sure to capture kids’ imaginations, complete with haunting relics of Australia’s maritime archaeological history; while the Art Gallery of Western Australia offers lots of activities for children.
Gravity Discovery Centre in Julimar and Scitech Discovery Centre are also well worth a visit, offering a host of hands-on learning experiences and activities for kids.

A trip to WA just ain’t complete without a trip to Adventure World in Bibra Lake. Perfect for kids of all ages—from the littlies to the fully-fledged adrenaline junkies, the whole family will enjoy a day spent at this theme park. For the real daredevils, the Abyss has been voted the best rollercoaster in Australia; and promises to turn the knuckles white of even the bravest riders.
If your kids are fascinated by the creepiness of prisons and confined spaces; a guided tour around Fremantle Prison is sure to delight. Alternatively, a trip to Ngilgi Cave in Yallingup or Jewel Cave in Deepdene offer epic underground experiences that are great for learning minds.
Other fun parks to check out include Faulkner Park in Cloverdale and King Carnival in Mandurah.

‘Cause what kid doesn’t like a bit of water-based fun?! Western Australia is home to some super-fun waterparks that promise to cool you down when it's hot, and easily occupy excited kids when you need to catch your breath.
Just 4 Fun Aqua Parks in both Halls Head and Rottnest Island are floating waterparks that offer hours of fun with giant inflatables, slides, climbers, and much more. The Maze in Bullsbrook is also home to Outback Splash; boasting a 6-slide waterpark, tipping bucket and fun water spray features—the perfect way to spend a hot summer’s day.
