When planning the perfect family holiday, we all have a checklist in mind. For me, it’s all about finding the ideal blend of relaxation for the adults and endless fun for the kids, somewhere not too far from home but far enough to feel like an escape.

This year, our family found that magical place at Pullman Magenta Shores Resort on the Central Coast, and let me tell you, it was everything we could have hoped for and more.

The Journey to Pullman Magenta Shores Resort

Just a stone’s throw from Sydney, Pullman Magenta Shores Resort is nestled between the sparkling Pacific Ocean and the serene Tuggerah Lake. This means a beach on one side, calm lake waters on the other - a geographical jackpot for families. The drive itself is an easy, breezy 90 minutes from Sydney, making it just far enough to escape the hustle and bustle but close enough to avoid the dreaded "are we there yet?" chorus from the back seat.

Accommodation: A Home Away From Home

Your accommodation can make or break a holiday. We chose a self-contained 2-storey, 3-bedroom villa, and it did not disappoint. Spacious, modern, and with all the comforts of home, it was the perfect base for our family. Having a space where the family can spread out and relax makes all the difference. The master bedroom was a haven for parents with a balcony overlooking the golf course, a TV and a well-laid-out ensuite with a shower, bath and toilet. The kids had their own bathroom to share which kept them out of ours. They also loved having their own ‘luxurious’ bedroom with a balcony.

Having a fully equipped kitchen meant we could whip up breakfasts and snacks hassle-free. The coffee machine, microwave, stop top, oven, fridge, and all the necessary cooking utensils were included if you want to cook at home. The laundry facilities meant we could pack light and return home without a mountain of dirty clothes.

Family Fun at Pullman Magenta Shores Resort

Pullman Magenta Shores Resort is a treasure trove of family activities, so while a little planning never hurts, don’t forget to leave some room for unexpected delights! Dive into the fun at the resort pools—there's something for everyone with three distinct areas: a lagoon pool complete with a pool bar (seasonal operation), a rock pool featuring three mini pools, and an indoor pool situated near the gym and sauna. These pools are an absolute blast for the kids! Plus, with the beach just a hop, skip, and a jump away, it’s the perfect spot for building sandcastles or enjoying a spirited game of family cricket.

 

Fancy a game of tennis?

We booked a court for some morning fun. Now, we're hardly tennis pros, just a family who enjoys a playful hit—talk about a fun way to get moving! And move we did - running after the balls from missed hits - lots of laughs and great fun. In fact, one of our kids has decided she now wants to take up tennis lessons!

And if you’re after more lively adventures, why not try the electric bikes? There’s also a fantastic gated playground equipped with swings, a slide, and climbing ropes, not to mention some comfy seats for parents needing a little break.

The championship golf course at Pullman Magenta Shores Resort is a blend of stunning coastal scenery and top-tier golfing. Designed to challenge and entertain, this course caters to all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned players. As a championship course, it features beautifully maintained greens and strategic sand bunkers that add an exciting layer of complexity to your play. Family-friendly elements like junior tees make it accessible for younger golfers, ensuring everyone can enjoy the game. Whether competing in a serious round or simply enjoying a leisurely game, this course offers a premium, engaging golf experience.

Relaxation Treat for Mums & Dads

But hey, it’s not all about the kids. While they’re off having the time of their lives, there’s plenty for parents to enjoy too. I treated myself to some pampering at the on-site Vie Spa. Think serene ambiance, and a menu of treatments from facials to massages, all designed to soothe your soul. I opted for a facial and a full-body massage which was amazing. It’s an indulgent experience from start to finish—absolute bliss.

Dining Delights

When it comes to dining, Pullman Magenta Shores Resort shines. Barrett's Restaurant serves up sophisticated dishes that even our little food critics loved. They have a great selection of starters to share, main meals or kids meals. All the food was beautiful but the lamb shanks were my pick! For more relaxed meals, Shallows Bar is your go-to with its laid-back vibe and family-friendly menu. 

Breakfast is a treat with options ranging from a hearty hot buffet to muesli, fruit, and toast—not to mention some decadent sweet treats like caramel slice which my girls went for. It’s not every day you get to have caramel slice for breakfast. My personal favourite? An omelette packed with the lot and even some chilli for that morning wake-up. There’s truly something delicious for everyone.

 

 

We’ll be back! From the warm welcome to the final goodbye, Pullman Magenta Shores Resort felt like a family haven designed with both parents and children in mind. It struck the perfect balance between relaxation and activity, luxury and comfort, making it an ideal spot for family holidays. It’s a place where family memories are made, and the stresses of everyday life seem a world away. As we drove away, with the kids already asking when we could return, I knew we’d found our go-to getaway spot.
