Looks like a spaceship, feels like a spaceship…isn’t a spaceship.

This super-popular Airbnb overlooks the Isle of Mull on Scotland’s West Coast in Drimmin, and for want of a better word—it’s quirky (read: cool) as hell. Aptly nailed ‘AirShip 002’, this unique design is essentially an insulated aluminium pod, designed by Roderick James Architects.

It might not be big, but it definitely packs a hefty design punch. It comes complete with a galley kitchen, two-person bedroom, balcony and bathroom with shower, plus a sitting area that boasts wrap-around glass panels, offering panoramic views of the rugged landscape and out to sea.

The epic structure was engineered by the British company Atelier One and built by the aluminium and stainless-steel equipment manufacturer Syspal, as part of an industry-wide move to create ultra-liveable small spaces that don’t compromise on quality; including cabins, boats and affordable houses with an energy-efficiency focus and credentials.

The architect built Airship 002 on his own property, and it’s made up of more than 3000 components—a lot of which are welded together. They’re made and assembled in such a way that each part can be carried by two people, with Roderick James telling Domain, “the key intention was that it could be erected in a week or so, and can also be taken apart in a similar time,” he says. “It can be erected anywhere, even if it is not possible to get a truck or crane very close.”

It goes without saying that the architect loves it—but luckily, the guests are just enthusiastic. One Airbnb review says "Airship 202 is a truly magical place. All the reviews do it justice and more. Breathtaking views, and an amazing property especially with a glass of wine watching the sun set over the beautiful scenery." Sound like your cup of tea?

Well! The tiny house and pod movement might be hitting Australian shores in the future—with the architect of Airship 202 sharing that he's had many requests for similar Airships to be built down under.

Watch this space! (And maybe book a trip to Scotland, or check out these tiny cabins.)
